Are you stuck with some Maytag Bravos XL washer problems? If yes, you’re not alone on this.

While the Maytag Bravos XL washer is pretty easy to use, looks great, and is highly efficient, it can efficiently run into some bad problems.

And this is because the washer is a machine with mechanical and electrical features that could develop mechanical and electrical issues, respectively.

In this article, you will learn everything you need to know about troubleshooting a Maytag Bravos XL washer. So please keep reading to have a look at those common problems and how to resolve them.

Common Issues With Maytag Bravos XL Washer

Maytag Bravos XL washer problems
  • It won’t turn on.
  • Start button not working.
  • Makes serious noise.
  • Leaking issue.

There are some obvious reasons why these problems occur and there are some easy fixes too. So, let’s talk about them in detail:

Maytag Bravos XL Washer Won’t Turn On

If your Maytag Bravos XL washer doesn’t turn on, then it could be because there’s a defective timer, a defective control, and display board, or an incoming power problem.

A low-quality power cord can be another reason your Maytag Bravos XL washer won’t turn on. Check out those reasons and solutions to fix the problem.

  • Lack of Continuity

Use a multimeter to check for continuity in your washer timer. Follow the washer instructional guide to check for continuity because it is different from the models.

If there are no signs of continuity, then you’ve got a defective timer, and it’s best to get a new one. If the continuity test gives a positive result, then jump into step 2.

  • Faulty Control Panel And Display Board

Check the connection of the control panel and display button. If power is getting to the control panel and display button but still not functioning, the control panel and display button could be faulty.

Some buttons may respond, and others won’t if a control panel and display board are faulty. All you have to do is replace the defective control panel and display board for the washer to power on.

  • Low-Quality Power Cord

A low-quality power cord will fail to give your washer power. Hence the washer would not power on. Make sure to use am original power cord or the one recommended by Maytag Bravos XL washer Manufacturers.

  • Defective Door Lock

A faulty door lock will make your washer not start. For security reasons, the Maytag Bravos XL washer is designed to start after the door is locked.

Use a multimeter to confirm the continuity of the washer’s door lock and replace a faulty door lock with a new one.

Maytag Bravos XL Washer Start Button Not Working

Maytag Bravos XL washer button problem

A thermal fuse, line fuse, or defective main control board will cause a washer start button not to work. Luckily, there’s the solution.

Here’s all you have to do to resolve a washer button not working problem.

  • Defective Main Control Board

Because the main control board controls every function in the washer, checking the main control board is the most logical thing to do.

Although the Maytag Bravos XL washer main control board has the least defective issues, still it’s safer to check it when having a washer button problem.

  • Faulty Thermal Fuse

In the Maytag Bravos XL washer, the thermal fuse is used for security. A blown thermal fuse won’t make the washer start button work.

So, make sure to check the thermal fuse for continuity. Replace the fuse if you detect a thermal fuse blown problem.

However, ensure that you’ve resolved issues that could cause a thermal fuse blown problem before replacing the thermal fuse.

  • Bad Line Fuse

A blown line fuse can cause the washer button to not start like the thermal fuse. Check the line fuse for continuity alongside other areas like the drain pump or wires.

If you detect a fault, it’s time to change the line fuse to solve the washer start button’s not working problem.

Maytag Bravos XL Washer Is Making Noise

When the Maytag Bravos XL washer makes a loud noise, it simply means there’s an issue with one or two engine parts.

A worn-out drive pulley is the most common cause of Maytag Bravos XL washer making noise problems.

Maytag Bravos makes noise
  • Cracked drive pulley

Check for a cracked or worn-out pulley and replace it with a new one. The drive pulley is located under the washing machine.

You will find it inside the motor.

  • Faulty Drive Belt

Continuous usage of the washer’s drive belt can cause the belt to crack or burn out and cause loud noise emitting from the machine. Confirm if the drive belt is cracked and replace it if you find any.

  • Motor Coupling Failure

Wear and tear can result in a motor coupling failure which eventually causes the washer to make a loud noise when in use. Change the broken motor coupling to stop the loud noise.

Maytag Bravos XL Washer Leaking Problem

Several factors can contribute to a water leaking problem in the Maytag Bravos XL washer.

Here are the troubleshooting steps to solve a water leaking problem.

  • Bad Tub Seal

With time, the washer tub seal can create a bearing failure and cause the washer to leak water. Replace the tub bearing and the tub seals to resolve the problem.

But note that you will have to disassemble most of the washer’s parts to replace the tub seal.

  • Defective Door Boot Seal

The door boot seal can also get faulty and cause a water leaking problem. Check for a torn door boot seal and replace it with a new one.

  • Faulty Drain Pump

Hmm…some people faced the draining problems with Maytag Centennial Washer too!

A drain pump and a drain hose can be another reason behind the water leaking problem. It could be damaged or cracked, causing water to leak from the back part and flow to your room.

To resolve this issue, fix the connection problem and replace the cracked drain pump or drain hose. Make sure to avoid pushing the drain hose against the wall after replacement.

It could cause the drain hose to become damaged or cracked.

  1. I absolutely loved my Bravos XL washer so much that I kept it after it stopped working. I’ve purchased a part for it but now discovering that it is not what it needs.
I believe it will need a tub seal and bearing. I’m quite mechanically inclined but hesitant to take this on, and limited space where the washer is sitting. ugh.
The washer leaked for a long time leaving a large rust circle spot underneath. It no longer wants to agitate and spin correctly.
The washer lasted a good five years and I question whether or not it is worth the effort.

  2. my maytag bravo xl is 3 years old and i had a repair man out to look at it and he said it would cost more to fix than buy a new one.
that is totally crazy that a MAYTAG washer doesn’t last 3 years. i bought what was supposed to be the top of the line and now it goes to the trash NOT HAPPY

  3. Bought the Maytag Bravo XL washer and dryer. Dryer went after 3 years and had to fix. Now the washer will not turn on. Was told that it costs more to fix than to replace. Will never buy Maytag again. Very disappointed.

  4. My bravo. Xl only 3 years old. Lid cracked at the hinge. Won’t close properly. 400 for a new lid and that doesn’t even include labor and service charge. Terrible cheaply made. They don’t make ‘em like they used to.

  5. My Maytag Bravos XL top loading machine is 5 years old. It is having a terrible time with its spin cycle. It makes a terribly loud noise when spinning, and it actually rocks back and forth on the floor when doing so. Repair man coming tomorrow.

  6. 3years old Bravo XL do not turn on. I got this because under the influence of the advertisement it’s tuff and do not break down. Also thought if break maytag man come and fix it for 10years… (stupid of me but TV ad make me believe) My previous machine was Kenmore Elite worked 12 years non stop. Never thought Maytag Bravo XL which I paid top dollars for it break so easy without no sign. Just died….. no power. Nothing can turn the power light back again. For my defense I take care of my machine. Every month clean the tab with tablet like instruction said and never over load. ( family of 3…) so disappointing. That TV ad and Maytag man is all illusion.
