  • Starting Problems
  • Engine Problems

The John Deere LT155 is known for its high-quality service.

However, sometimes you may find some minor problems that make the mower perform unexpectedly as mentioned above. It is a machine, and machines sometimes can misfunction.

A common problem that many have reported is the mower not moving forward or reverse. It sticks to the ground. This may indicate an issue in the air filter or the carburetor.

Another problem is that the LT155 mower steers to the left when you apply the brake. Steering problems such as this one is also common in John Deere riding mowers.

Problems also occur in the engine, causing the mower to perform poorly. In addition, the integral parts of the mower are susceptible to damage.

Transmission failure may result in all sorts of malfunctions for your lawnmower.

We can see that there are various problems that one may face while using an LT155 mower. So, let us see how to fix these problems.

John Deere LT155 Hydrostatic Transmission Problems

The hydrostatic transmission system transfers power from the engines to the hydraulic pumps. The liquid pressure generated by the pumps rotates the wheels. This is the basic operation of the transmission system in the LT155.

There are delicate mechanical components inside hydrostatic transmission systems.

If the drive axle or the metal hose is broken, you will face transmission problems. Oil viscosity is also a very common problem.

If there is air inside the transmission system, it is known as cavitation.

If cavitation occurs, the system cannot generate pressure. To fix cavitation, you have to purge your hydraulic transmission system. Purging your transmission system is also helpful if your mower becomes sluggish.

If purging the air from the system didn’t help, you should check the system for damage. You should clean the pump and add more fuel to make sure the mower is running properly.

Next, check for any leaks in the metal hoses. If you can’t figure out the problem, you should contact an expert.

John Deere LT155 Fuel Pump Problems

The fuel pump is an integral part of the lawnmower. Sometimes the mower may randomly stop or fail to start up properly.

This happens because there might be some problem with the fuel pump. Sometimes dirt or debris plugs up the tank. This causes hindrance in the flow of fuel.

Another reason could be that the pump is not connected correctly.

To fix the fuel pump, first, check if it is connected properly. Then, take an air hose and blow some air into the gas filler hole. This should fill up the line and clean out the dust. You can also manually clean the debris.

John Deere LT155 Steering Problems

John Deere LT155 steering problems

Some common steering problems for the John Deere LT155 are not turning to the left, suddenly getting stuck on one spot, not moving forward or reverse, or turning left when braking.

These problems are huge safety issues. They commonly occur because of damage inside the mechanical components.

Unless you know what you are doing, you should not tinker with the components.

To figure out the exact cause, you have to remove the snap ring and take apart the rack.

Check the internal parts such as the pinion gear, rack gear, bearings, drive belts, and idlers. There may be issues with the air filter, battery, or carburetor.

Some of these parts may have been damaged. You should replace the damaged parts.

The bearing may become loose over time. By fixing it, you can solve the steering problem of the LT155.

John Deere LT155 Starting Problems

Sometimes the John Deere LT155 may refuse to start at all. It can happen if the mower has not been maintained properly.

Newer mowers generally don’t have this problem.

Check the battery connector; it may be corroded and needs to be replaced. If the connector is loose, tighten it with a wrench.

You may also need to replace any fuse that has become bad. Add distilled water to the battery if necessary.

The battery itself might also be damaged. So, replace it, and you should be good.

John Deere LT155 Engine Problems

The John Deere LT155 comes with a Kohler 15HP engine. If you are noticing problems such as the mower stopping suddenly after a little while, it means that there is something wrong with the engine.

Sometimes, the engine may not restart after stopping. It may shut down in the middle of a mowing session. It’s a similar problem with John Deere D140 too.

These are easily fixable common problems.

The main reason for engine problems is a bad ignition coil. So the next time your mower stops suddenly, check the plug wire.

If you don’t see any spark, you have to replace the ignition coil.

If you are unsure how to do so, contact an authorized service center.

If changing the ignition coil didn’t help, you should take it to a mechanic for a full repair.

How To Keep Your JD LT155 In Good Condition?

  1. Greetings
I just rebuilt the K51B Trans axle on my LT155. Everhything went well. The Trans axle operates normally. No noise or clunking of internal parts. The problem is the forward pedals moves the tractor goes backwards and when you push the reverse the tractor moves forward. Linkage appears to work correctly Any ideas or suggestions.

  2. There’s a ‘knocking’ noise in my D-155 John Deere lawn tractor. It disappears when the left peddle is pressed
