Stay with me to make a wise decision.
Common Problems of John Deere 1025R
Here is a list of common issues with 1025R:
- Hydraulic problems
- Transmission problems
- Brakes and steering problems
- Overheating engine
- Hard to start the engine
Even after solving some of the significant problems facing small-scale farmers, this compact machine is a topic of debate by most farmers.
In this section, we will look at some of the issues of this tool and give a tip to help overcome the problem.
Also, if you are in a dilemma if to purchase the device, we will help you come to a quick conclusion.
John Deere 1025R Hydraulic Problems
Most power machines have a hydraulic system that drives fluid which is the source of energy, and this tractor is no exceptional.
Unfortunately, though, its hydraulic system has not been the easiest to use. Here are some of its hydraulic system complaints and some troubleshooting techniques.
- Sluggish Operation
Some of the users observed that this machine’s operation speed decreases with time. The manufacturers suggested that it would be due to water in the hydraulic oil altering its density and its pressure.
The good news is that there is a corrective mechanism for this problem. You can quickly drain out the hydraulic system and fill it in with pure and correct oil type for hydraulic systems.
- Poor performance
The hydraulic system works with respect to the law of pressure. Thus if the pressure of the hydraulic fluid is altered then, it results in poor performance.
Fortunately, you can improve its performance by draining and filling the hydraulic fluid. Yet you can check on the hydraulic oil filters and replace them if need be.
John Deere 1025r Transmission Problems
Some people faced the same issue dealing with Z445 John Deere problems as well. Transmission problems can be quite adverse to the extent that the machine cannot move an inch even with the engine running.
The best news is that you don’t have to hire a mechanic, but you can perform a corrective measure all by yourself. Well, that sounds good.
The transmission problems can be as a result of;
- Transmission oil low – when the oil level is below the minimum level, it is low. That can be corrected by adding more oil.
- Transmission oil cold – for better oil movements, the transmission oil needs to be slightly warm. Thus, if it is chilly weather, wait for some minutes for the oil to warm up.
- Neutral shift lever position – the shift lever should be at a high or low range position. Thus, check if it is well-positioned.
John Deere 1025R Engine problems
Having a faulty engine implies having a useless machine. Why? An engine is the source of power in the John Deere 1025R tractor.
Consequently, a defective engine means no power, thus no functionality. Some of the engine problems are;
- It A Hard To Start The Engine
At times the engine can be pretty hard to start, or worse, it may fail to start. A wrong gearshift lever positioning can cause that, that is, on a neutral position.
To run the engine, always ensure that the gearshift lever is in the high or low range.
Further, stale or wrong oil type will not start your engine. That is because the stale or wrong oil type has poor viscosity, and thus its movements are not efficient.
Therefore, you should regularly refill the hydraulic oil with the correct hydraulic fluid.
- Overheating Engine
Extreme temperatures on the engine significantly affect the longevity of the machine.
In addition, an engine can overheat due to the accumulation of debris on radiator fins. Consequently, regular cleaning of the radiator fins is paramount.
Similarly, improper adjustment on the fan belt can cause engine overheating. So always have your fan belt tight and in place.
The best part is that you can purchase a coolant and use it to bring the engine to its room temperatures, or you can also reduce the engine speed to cool it.
Other Issues With John Deere 1025r Lawn Tractor
Apart from the above big issues, there are some smaller issues you need to be aware of:
John Deere 1025r Brakes And Steering Problems
Malfunctioned steering and brakes are pretty deadly. So strictly, you should check on them regularly.
Your brakes might be faulty if they take ages to respond. Luckily you can quickly fix them by repairing or replacing them.
Some of the causes of faulty steering are;
- Faulty oil filter
- Excessive play on the steering which can be repaired
- Improper tire inflation. Thus ensure that you inflate the tires correctly always.
Electrical System Problems
Problems with the electrical system are usually a result of a faulty battery. Either the battery is not charging or has corroded terminals resulting in high current resistance.
Thus, it is vital to ensure that;
- The battery connections are correct
- Regularly clean the terminal to prevent corrosions
- The electrical belt should be tight always
- Replace any defective battery

Any help would be good.
Is anyone having problems with the mowing deck control by letting the deck drop from setting to setting lower each time you cut grass , this one has had the cam replaced to try a stop the deck from cutting dirt , put the new one still will cut dirt but lowering at a slower rate.
I’ve bought my 2018 1025r tlb new .worked the tractor day in day out with no issues great tractor. I don’t understand the problematic reviews people claim on their own tractor
Frequently I have trouble getting the gear shifted in to high or low range from neutral. No trouble getting back to neutral, just H or L. Does the shifter need greasing or something?
I have a 1025r 24hp and if it’s @ 40 degrees. It only tries to start on 1 cylinder.
To Bob Ren, is the mower deck hight lock located in the floor ? My older 2320 has the lock/ adjust knob located in the floor, near my right foot. I have noticed that from time to time when I am getting on the tractor my foot often lands on top of the knob and as I continue my accent, my foot will twist and turn the knob to a position that I do not want.
To Jim, you are having trouble shifting fron neutral to either high or low ? I believe the actual requires gears to slide laterally and mesh with each other. Unless they are using a synchro gear to assist the mesh, you may just be in a position where the gears are not correctly aligned. Very light pressure on the shifter and very light pressure on either directional pedal will allow the gears to align and slide together.
1025r tractor loose rpm when snow blowing why
is there no govenor?
I was blowing snow the other day and when I go backwards with the 1025R, the engine kills while snowblower is engaged. It had never done this before today.
